The workshop addressed the concept of violence against women in its various forms—physical, psychological, legal, and social—while reviewing its causes and impacts on family stability and social cohesion. It also emphasized the role of educational and academic institutions in cultivating a culture of respect for women and opposing all forms of violence and discrimination.
The workshop highlighted the legal and legislative framework that ensures the protection of women in Iraq, including:
Provisions of the Iraqi Constitution that guarantee the protection and dignity of women.
Articles of the Iraqi Penal Code that criminalize domestic violence and various assaults.
The Domestic Violence Law and its drafts, which include protective measures.
The role of the judiciary and relevant authorities in addressing cases of violence and safeguarding victims’ rights.
The workshop also discussed the religious and ethical dimension that focuses on protecting women and preserving their status, drawing upon the principles of Islamic Sharia that call for compassion, justice, and the safeguarding of rights.
Additionally, the workshop explored social challenges associated with violence, such as stereotypes, weak awareness of rights, the influence of family environments, and the lack of reporting and documentation.

Strengthening awareness programs within and beyond the university.
Empowering women intellectually and legally to defend their rights.
Enhancing the role of educational and community institutions in reducing violence.
Supporting student initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of social peace.
This workshop comes as part of the university’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness and establish the principles of respect for human rights, in line with its vision and mission of reform and development.
