The Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Media at Warith Al-Anbiya University (peace be upon him), held a specialized awareness lecture entitled “The Role of Media in Highlighting Violence Against Women and Girls”, on 2/15/2026.
The lecture targeted students and staff of the College of Media, and highlighted the most prominent negative phenomena that women and girls are exposed to in society, most notably domestic violence, harassment, electronic blackmail, and the scourge of drugs, with the aim of strengthening the role of the media in addressing these pressing societal issues.
The lecture was presented by Assistant Lecturer Arb Al-Shami, and it addressed three main themes: The first theme: The power of media and its influence in shaping societal awareness. The lecture opened with a moving human story that captured the audience's attention, supported by alarming statistics Regarding the spread of violence against women, with the aim of establishing an understanding of the importance of the topic as a fundamental societal issue that cannot be treated as mere passing news, and the second focus: ethical and professional problems in media coverage
It reviewed the most prominent challenges and wrong practices that some media outlets fall into when dealing with issues of violence against women, and the third axis included best practices towards responsible and effective coverage
The lecture concluded with a set of recommendations and professional and ethical practices to ensure responsible media coverage, contributing to raising community awareness and advocating for policy and legal changes that guarantee better protection for women and girls from all forms of violence and exploitation.
